Is there a way to get rid of your pet name, so it goes back to the default?

Why would you want your pet's name to go back to the default?
And if you do want it to go back to default, I would assume you just do /petname <default>. For example:
/petname <Melandru Stalker>
Haven't done it myself but unless you can only name something once, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
